NIC not configured on HP-8250 Pavillion

NIC not configured on HP-8250 Pavillion

I just installed Red Hat 7.2 on my older Win95 machine, and it failed to config the network. Running fine as a standalone...How do I configure the network manually? Any clue as to what sort of NIC it might be? All I know is that it support 100base-T.

Unfortunately, according to HP, they didn't distribute that model with a Network card. I take it that the Windows '95 installation that was on the machine is no longer?

It sounds as if you might need to go into the machine and physically eye-ball the network card to figure out what make/model it is. Most of the network cards that I've seen HP release hardware with over the last 3-4 years have been either 3COM, Intel, or RL1209 based chipsets, all of which RH 7.2 will detect and use without any issues.

Sorry I couldn't be more help with this.

Go to the bios of the system and set the plug&play feature off for that slot. It will start recognizing the Card. This happened to me also. We had tried with 3-4 NIC card.

Gee, I forgot that this was still hanging out there. I actually never found the complete answer, but did find that the network would work fine, as long as I did NOT try to use the printer parallel port! So I purchased an inexpensive USB adaptor and the installation recognized that just fine. The problem persisted with Red Hat through several versions, but finally disappeared when I changed to Mandrake Linux.
