On Fedora 4 installation trouble with X server

Hi,

usually the HW detection by kudzu is doing quite well on RH, and so I guess my X server is configured correctly because I can startup X and a desktop such as KDE or GNOME.
The only problem is that I can no longer use the function keys to change between the (runlevel 3) virtual consoles and X by
e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2
Also the shutting down of the X server by Ctrl+Alt+Bkspc doesn't work anymore.
In fact, most annoying the whole machine is frozen after this grip with a black screen and I do have to reboot.
It also happens often that I cannot return from RL 5 to RL 3 by (tel)init 3 from an Xterm.
Same symptoms.
In the X server's log I didn't find any useful hints.
Any idea what could be broken?

I think that you should use system-config-display to re-check that the detected values for your video adapter and monitor are correct.

What are the server options configured in the xorg file?

Re: On Fedora 4 installation trouble with X server

Hi Ivan,

I haven't satisfactorily finished my Windows/Linux integration yet.
So at the moment I cannot boot up my dual-boot work place PC to Linux for checking.
Unfortunately I'm forced due to certain standard programs we use in-house to also have windows running.
I'm not sure if it's worth tampering around with Cooperative Linux (from Win32) or even full virtualisation by e.g. VMWare (don't know the performance penalty this would yield).
I will come back later when I'm able to boot into Linux.
