portals

my network administrator recently put up a firewall and now i cant use yahoo messenger or chat service i brought this to his attention but he doesnt seem to know how to remedy the situation short of removing the firewall a friend told me that a portal can be created which will allow me use those services pls how can i or my network administrator do this

yahoo messenger uses specific ports on the firewall.

Like openssh uses 22, yahoo messenger needs to have a certain port open to work through a firewall.

I consider these programs a hazard because they can reveal local machine characteristics.

If however you wish to use them, simply find out what firewall port to open and open that port. You need not lose all the protection of the firewall.

As far as I know theses are the ports used by yahoo.

port 5000 TCP - Chat
port 5001 TCP - Chat
port 5055 UDP - Phone
port 5100 TCP - Webcam
