POWER EGDE 4400 NOT SEEN scsi hdd

Hello,

Can you please help sort this issue out? Hope am not troubling you guys to much
I have a poweredge 4400 to deploy immediately but just found out that its not seen the SCSI hard drives. I tried scanning for SCSI IDs without success. The CDrom on SCSI ID 5 and Adaptec AIC-7880 are the two SCSI devices available.

I will appreciate somebody replying this mail at the drop of hat

Thanks awaiting your usual quick response

You can not see the RAID controller, very possible the RAID controller module is not loaded or built into the kernel. when you lsmod, can you see any module like atpu870u?

See this link: http://linux.dell.com/raid.shtml, hope helpful.

Re: POWER EGDE 4400 NOT SEEN scsi hdd

Hello Brice,

You seem not to get my question clear. I cannot log on in the first instance.

The only thing I have been able to get are

SCSI ID: 5 NEC CDROM DRIVE

and SCSI ID: 6 ARCHIVE Python 06408-xxx ULTRA-LVD

It did not detect the harddisk in the first instance. That is the area I want you to look at

Thanks

Re: POWER EGDE 4400 NOT SEEN scsi hdd

Let me make myself clear. If you did not change any hardware configuration, the HDDs should be connected to the internal RAID controller, for PE4400, it's PERC3/Di. The CDROM and tape drive is very possible on your Adaptec SCSI controller.

If you did install a SCSI HDD on that Adaptec controller, what is the SCSI ID of the HDD?

If you did not install a SCSI HDD on that Adaptec controller, you need to compile the PERC3 module into kernel. If the controller is not seen by kernel, of course you can not see the HDDs.

what is the content of /proc/scsi/scsi?

Re: POWER EGDE 4400 NOT SEEN scsi hdd

Brice,
Thanks for your patience. However, the system is not even booting to detect HDD talkless having access to the Kernel. I may not understand some stuffs hear. But is it possible to have access to Directory in your last mail without the BIOS recognising the HDD in the first instance the way the CDROM was recognised?

I want some clearifications

I sure appreciate your qiuck response

Re: POWER EGDE 4400 NOT SEEN scsi hdd

'expert noprobe dd' at the boot: prompt might help. It works on PERC4/Di on PE1750, see bellow link:

Since it's a PowerEdge specific topic, you might want to post it on Dell PowerEdge Linux forum:
