Problem cloning RedHat Linux image onto HP Pavilion
I had planned on using a Hewlett Packard Pavilion XT856 for a backup domain controller on my computer network. I originally setup the master RedHat Linux software image on an AMD Athlon motherboard. I then cloned this image onto the HP XT856 machine, thinking that all I would have to do is use a Linux boot disk to boot the machine and then I planned on repairing the boot loader with (/sbin/grub-install hda). RedHat Linux would have detected the differences in hardware upon bootup and uninstalled the Athlon motherboard drivers and installed the drivers needed to run on the HP XT856 machine. The problem is that it crashes upon bootup and displays the following information:
Dump of CPU register values
Misc. info about stack, etc.
Ends with specific error messages:
"Kernel panic: Fatal exception"
"In idle task - not syncing"
This Norton Ghost clone process has worked on every computer I have ever used this on except for this stubborn HP machine. Any help and advice with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problem cloning RedHat Linux image onto HP Pavilion
You can not clone hardware that is that unlike for Linux. I've used ghost on similar machines as well with Linux images.
You might have some success with mondo and mini which are meant to close systems and may be able to handle hardware changes as does HP's Ignite software.
