Problem Configuring Multitech Modem on Red Hat 6.2
I have a Multitech ISI5634PCI/4 modem card in my Red Hat Linux server. I've downloaded and installed the drivers for this card and set up getty's in /etc/inittab to listen for requests on the modem ports. I have a laptop PC connected directly to one of the Linux modem ports and I'm trying to establish a connection between the two using kermit but with no success. When I try to connect, the Linux server reports 'No carrier detected'. When I try connecting using kermit on the PC, I get an error reporting 'No response timeout'. Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance for your support.
Nothing succeeds like excess

Re: Problem Configuring Multitech Modem on Red Hat 6.2
As long as I see, you are connecting both the Laptop modem and the server modem back to back --direct with a phone cord--
Those modems are configured for dial line so they don't give dial tone.
You could need a device to simulate a conmuted line in midle of your modems or connect both modems to separate telephone lines.
