but I can't boot on the hard drive (I can on the floppy disk) ! the screen remains blank
Where did I go wrong ?

I am not acquainted with the Vectra VL 400... Does it require a MBR for booting?? are you sure you built the lilo config during the Redhat 7.0 install?? I built my RH 7.0 on an HP Intel workstation, and was prompted for lilo. Later I went back to install some additional features from booting the install CD... skipped over reruning the LILO build to save time... Mistake! It appears you must build LILO everytime you build from the install CD. lynkster

Re: Installing RED HAT 7 on HP Vectra VL 400

When you installed RH7, under the section for LILO there are some options about how you want to set it up. The default if you are going to use a single boot (ie linux only) system is to install lilo on the MBR. If you are going to use another boot manager (or duel boot) then it is often installed onto the boot partition.

If your machine is going to boot scsi disks you often have to enable "linear" mode.

If you can boot up with the floppy disk then you should be able to use lilo to make the machine boot off the hard disk.
