Problem in setting kernel parameters SUSE 7.0 (2.2.16 kernel )
I am facing problem with my Oracle perfomance running od SuSE 7.0 ( 2.2.16 kernel ).
The following parameters are not set.
SHMSEG, SHMMIN , SHMMNI, SEMMNI, SEMMSL, SEMMNS, SEMOPM, SEMVMX .
I have added these parameters to /etc/sysctl.conf file and ran following commands. It is throwing following errors.
#sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf
error: 'kernel.shmseg' is an unknown key
error: 'kernel.shmmin' is an unknown key
error: 'kernel.semmni' is an unknown key
.
.
.
Could any one tell me hwo to set these kernel parameters in 2.2 kernel?
Thanks in advance.
shashi

Re: Problem in setting kernel parameters SUSE 7.0 (2.2.16 kernel )
Shashi,
You should read installation manuals for your Oracle version (7.x ?) under 2.2 kernel.
As far as I remember, in 2.2 kernels you should recompile kernel in order to change these params.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/index.html and http://www.puschitz.com/ should help you.
Rgds,
Vitaly

Re: Problem in setting kernel parameters SUSE 7.0 (2.2.16 kernel )
a 2.2 kernel? you cannot set those values using sysctl. you need to edit the source code and recompile.
