problem with e1000 HP drivers

I recently built 2 RHEL AS4 u3 systems. When I installed the 7.6 PSP it breaks one of the system's networking. I am getting messages "kernel: e1000: version magic '2.6.9-34.ELsmp SMP 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-3.2' should be '2.6.9-34.ELsmp SMP 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-3.4'" when I reboot. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Of course, you were building the module with gcc-3.2 instead of gcc-3.4.
Postfix/BIND/Security/IDS/Scanner, you name it...

Re: problem with e1000 HP drivers

Other than changing your gcc compiler to 3.4, please verify your "kernel-headers" file.

Do an "rpm -q" on "gcc" and "kernel-headers".

Re: problem with e1000 HP drivers

Shalom,

Uninstall the PSP software. That was the cause of the problem, for some reason your system doesn't like it.

You might find RHEL AS 4 update 4 gets around this issue.

Please state the type of system, it can make a difference here.

Re: problem with e1000 HP drivers

The gcc version on both systems.
[root@rac04lp ~]# rpm -qa|grep gcc|sort
compat-gcc-32-3.2.3-47.3
compat-gcc-32-c++-3.2.3-47.3
compat-libgcc-296-2.96-132.7.2
gcc-3.4.5-2
gcc4-4.0.2-14.EL4
gcc-c++-3.4.5-2
gcc-g77-3.4.5-2
gcc-gnat-3.4.5-2
gcc-java-3.4.5-2
gcc-objc-3.4.5-2
libgcc-3.4.5-2

The kernel packages are
kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.EL
kernel-smp-devel-2.6.9-34.EL

One of my systems works and the other does not. They are both HP DL580-G2. I can't go to update 4 as it is not supported by all of my components yet (EMC DMX2 disk, EMC PowerPath software, Qlogic qla2340 HBAs, Oracle RAC DB.
