PRODUCT SIMILAR TO HP'S IGNITE-UX

Linux SAs:

I am looking at some good products for system recoveries of Linux Servers. Is there anything as good as Ignite-UX for Linux servers in the market? Please share your good and bad experiences if you have any.

Regards,
-Kennedy

Re: PRODUCT SIMILAR TO HP'S IGNITE-UX

Shalom,

Ignite is unique and HP has chosen not to port it to Linux. I assume this is due to the inability to recover costs. I think that is a mistake and people would pay for it. Oh well.

There is a license cost but acronis is pretty good. It doesn't do physical to virtual that well or IBM to HP.

http://www.mondorescue.org
Also good, but not as good as acronis. Free.

HP SmartStart Scripting Toolkit for Linux. It's free and is a roll-your-own method. The tools configure ProLiant hardware. With creative bash scripting you can go from bare iron to running OS in an automated fashiom

Re: PRODUCT SIMILAR TO HP'S IGNITE-UX

red hat has kickstart, which is normally used for automating installs, nothing stopping you from 'abusing' this for recovery purposed (expect some scripting to be done though).

otherwise, mondo is the bees knees.

Huc:

I think you cut and pasted the wrong link. Your link talks about HP Cassette drive and I am looking for a Linux product which is comparable to Ignite-UX.

Re: PRODUCT SIMILAR TO HP'S IGNITE-UX

Shalom again Kennedy,

Kickstart is great, permitting you to replicate original install state of machines, and packages.

However after you have added a lot of configuration changes and new packages, other replication tools are needed.
