PSP 8.20, RHEL 5.3 and hp-fibreutils

Hi,

After installing PSP 8.20 on a RHEL 5.3 box, the PSP package hp-fibreutils doesn't get installed.

Any ideas ?

Thx

I think fibreutils is obsoleted by device-mapper-multipath in RHEL 5.3.

Hi,

You may be right for some functionnalities, but there are some useful programs such as scsi_info that are no more available.

On RHEL 5.2, dm-multipath and hp-fibreutils (8.15) lived well together.
Thx

Can I ask why the Multipath Device Mapper Kit isn't supplied in the HP PSP 8.20 pack?

I know you can configure the fiber cards without this kit, however they make scanning the LUNs and providing the WWN's alot easier.

Good queestion/suggestion, I'll pass it up the chain.

With the newer distributions the only thing the HPDMmultipath kit provides is a multipath.conf file. Older distributions needed modifications to some of the device mapper executables. Those changes were adopted by the upstream maintainers of the code so there is not a need for HP specific binaries now.

The fibreutils package isn't in the HPDMmultipath kit, so there is no help in scanning for LUNS. fibreutils which contains "hp_rescan" is included with the PSP. Version 3.x of fibreutils will be in a future release.

The newer distributions (RHEL5.x, SLES10.x)put information in /sys/class/scsi_host/ instead of /proc/scsi/ so the scripts/tools for hp_rescan had to be updated to reflect the change. fibreutils.3.x is available in the hp-fc-enablement package referenced in an earlier post for both RHEL and SLES.
