rad hat x winmodens

Hi All,

I would apreciate any help in configuring rad-hat 9.0 in a laptop
Toshiba Satellite 2410-S205 concerning to a internal modem (winmodem).
Only the modem isn't ok.
Thanx in advance.

Re: rad hat x winmodens

Lima,

Winmodems are not complete modems they are cheap "not all the hardware is present, what is not there is emulated by software" emulator.

The best way and probaly the cheapest way is the buy a real external modem theses day's these can be found at very low prices !.

If you do a search here on winmodems you will get more pointers to web sites that collect winmodems drivers this is sometimes helpfull.

On goggle there "many reply/complains" on winmodems .

If you are not faint of heart and have the time then try the various driver/pointer found in this forum, else get a real modem.

You can find drivers for many common winmodems at http://linmodems.org/

You need to first identify the one in your computer using the scan tool, then download the correct driver. I went this process once with a RipTide HCF modem (Conexant Driver) and after weeks of attempts it never did work. Good luck.

Re: rad hat x winmodens

winmodems are really nothing more then sound cards with special drivers (read "modules") and specialized outputs.

that being said, i think you'll have a really hard time getting it to work unless the manufacture (of the actual modem or modem chip, not the OEM or the brander) supports linux.

will some of the Dell PCTel laptop modems we've had much better luck going with the conexant drivers. since they make the actual chip in the laptop, their drivers are more robust then the dell variant.

of course, even conexant drivers don't support linux, you may have to check here http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ if your modem is a PCTel
There have been Innumerable people who have helped me. Of course, I've managed to piss most of them off.
