Reboot when try to install Linux

When I tried to install Linux on my Pavilion a600y the computer reboot itself when the kernel is loading. I tried some distribution (Knoppix, Debian, Mandrake) and the same problem occurs.

Re: Reboot when try to install Linux

Hi Gilles,

are you running another OS on this machine ? It's working fine ?

Try to disable pnp on bios. Try to boot with noapic.

Re: Reboot when try to install Linux

Linux simply won't work with some Pavillion boxes. Dual boot can be problematic.

Please provide more information. RAM, disk size, other OS installed.

Yes, I'm running Windows XP and all works fine. I already tried to disable PNP in the BIOS and tried to start linux with noapic and the same problems occurs.

Re: Reboot when try to install Linux

Heres my system :

Hp Pavilion a600y
Celeron 2.53
256 DDR
40 gig HD
1 CD-RW
1 CD

I recently added a ATI Radeon 9250 with 256 DDR (PIC) and a modem USR, but the problem occurs with and without theses cards.

I have Windows XP on it and all works fine.

I don't think the dual boot can be the problem, I just can't install Linux, when the installation process start, the kernel try to load and then my computer reboot.

I also try Knoppix (Linux distribution Live on a CD without the need of a HD)

Re: Reboot when try to install Linux

Gilles,

if Knoppix can't work probably you will not be able to run linux on that machine.

I'm sory but I can't help you, it's beyond my knowledge.
