Redhat 7.0 LVM

Has anyone setup vg00 on the root (boot) disk with RH7.0?

Thanks,

Craig

Re: Redhat 7.0 LVM

Craig,

Not an answer, just another question instead.

I haven't upgraded to RH 7.0 yet, since I'm awaiting the advent of Kernel 2.4 which is said to include LVM support without need for patching anymore.

Is RH 7.0 comming with a pre-patched kernel for LVM support that you can install right out of the box?

So far I had to get the latest patches from the LVM author's website

http://linux.msede.com/lvm/

Maybe you have a look at this site.

There is a recent update that has a link to the LVM-Boot-Root-FS-HOWTO

Re: Redhat 7.0 LVM

Craig,

Although I have not personally performed the vg00 root partition RAID, I have done RAID on all of the other Volume groups.

It appears that enough other people have performed what you are looking to do to creat the Boot + Root + Raid + Lilo : Software Raid HOWTO

You can find the Entire HOWTO at http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Boot+Root+Raid+LILO.html

If you already have RAID configured and installed, then it does not appear to be a significant technology leap for the Root Partition to become mirrored.

Re: Redhat 7.0 LVM

Setting up your root partition is tricky but doable. The only restrictions are that the /boot cannot be part of the LVM, since the kernel has to get into memory first and get the ball rolling.

Here's the instructions I used to get it work for me...

http://www.the-infinite.org/archive/docs/lvm/howto-boot-off-root-lv.txt

it works great!

Good luck!
Tim.
