Redhat & Win98 coexists....

In my PC, Redhat and Win98 is coexists so I choose OS to start at boot time.
I wonder that a disk containg Redhat is failed, I can boot off Win98 because the OS menu box is given by Redhat.

If not, how can I remove Redhat safely from my PC to disable dual boot capability.

If you want to uninstall Linux and keep your Win98 partition, boot on Windows and do:

fdisk /mbr

and then

fdisk

The menu will open. Choose 'Make active partition' and type in the number of your windows partition.

That should do it.

correct c:\fdisk / mbr single lack to erase the partition linux :
1) boot linux
2) go option fdisk
...
option m(help)
3)seleciont p
delete the partition the linux and swap
4) seleciont w(writer)
reboot

Hi,

this fits the case with lilo in mbr, but what if lilo is in the first sectors of the active partitions?

in both cases, boot the RedHat, do a 'lilo -u' or 'lilo -U', boot in 98, erase/reassign partitions and there you go.

My case if like this.
There're two disks.
One has win98 and the other Redhat respectively.
What happens if Redhat disk failed ?

Hi,

The redhad disk is the boot disk so if that disk fails you need to swap disks and run fdisk /mbr
on the windows disk. ( from floppy disk since your not able to boot, so create an rescue disk )

I aggree with everyone else that booting from a windows floppy and typing fdisk /mbr will rewrite your master boot record and enable you to boot to just windows. But if you chose to write the boot to the first sector of your disk it would then depend on which disk was your master disk.

Anyway, to do away with this problem all together there is a device at http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/01q3/010727/index.html that will allow you to switch which harddrive you want to boot from. That way each disk is attached to the system and operate independently so you just turn the dial to windows drive and boot. I thought this was a great device.
