resetting password in OSX for CUPS

I didn't have a password set when I was told about setting up a CUPS printer for my modem to have a record of sent faxes.
I now want to edit some parts of the configuration and it says I need a password, but I didn't use one when setting it up. Does anyone know how to find out what it is?
It is not my admin password for my system, as that does NOT work. So I am at a loss to figure out what is happening. CUPS was a "new" idea to me to begin with and now I am more in the dark. My HP 1220c is acting up and I want to make sure I have all the right settings. I'd like to eliminate an extra configuration under 1220c-1 which has my CUPS settings. It is also the "default" printer selected and since I can't change it I don't know if that is really my issue or something else. Any help is appreciated.

Re: resetting password in OSX for CUPS

What does that mean to me? Root?

Should my admin pw work? 'cuz it doesn't.

I really need help understanding this root-thing. TIA

Re: resetting password in OSX for CUPS

When you say OSX, are you referring to Apple Mac OS X? If so, and you need to do something as root, you may need to "enable the root user". See this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106290

I'm a unix novice my self but as I understand it, the "root" user is a special user that can do anything... (more than any other)

Re: resetting password in OSX for CUPS

This was exactly what I needed to know to solve my issue. Thank you soooo much. When it was suggested I use this no one said anything about setting up a root user. I was able to just do it... so your insight is much appreciated.
