RH 8.0 - hpasm v7.0.0-21 - "modinfo: bonding: no module by that name found"

I upgraded the hpasm, cmastor and ucd-snmp packages for my RedHat 8.0 equipped Proliant servers (ML370 G3) from version 6.40 to the 7.0, released December 17. Now, I'm having more ASR reboots and the /var/spool/compaq/cma.log is being flooded with:

"modinfo: bonding: no module by that name found" during every poll.

Are these drivers stable? I've usually had good luck with them, but this is causing problems. I thought it was a recommended upgrade, especially since I wanted the additional logging facilities, but I need an answer here. Thanks.

Hi,

I looks as if you haven't installed the NIC Teaming/Bonding driver and that cma is trying to do a modinfo on that module, you can probably make cma stop looking for that driver via some configuration option.

The hpasm driver is very stable in my experience, been using it for a few months at several customers without any problems.

I know the drivers are usually stable. I've been running the 6.40 version of the agents for months. The newly-released drivers seem to be the problem. I believe they merged the foundation agents with the hpasm driver. I don't really want to installt he bonding agent, but I can't seem to trace the source of the modinfo call either. I think I'm going to revert to 6.40.

Your not the only one having problems with ver. 7.0 of the Insight Agents for linux.

After installing these agents on 11 servers, we had two servers perform 'ASR' within two days. The log file says, 'BIOS initiated ASR' .. Yeah, thats real informative..

I was running the 6.40 agents for months without any issues.. Needless to say, looks like I'm going to have to rollback to 6.40.

That bonding agent is only for teaming up NIC's, otherwise you shouldn't load it..

I think that the stability problem lies with the Red Hat errata kernels (Red Hat 8.0). None of my systems with vanilla kernel.org kernels (2.4.21 patched with XFS) seemed to have the false ASR's.

I'm surprised that there's been no official response to this. Due to a rash of ASR reboots of my servers, I've have to rollback the hpasm and cmastor drivers back to version 6.40.

Everyone at HP is probably on vacation until the New Year.. I called HP on this issue (23rd) and the technician mentioned the drivers were too new to get any feedback on.. He didn't have any information to offer and said I should roll-back to 6.40..

I could have figured that out on my own..

All our servers are on 6.40 under AS 2.1 .

Hmmm, this was never fixed, eh? I still can't rollout the hpasm drivers for my Redhat 8.0-based servers because of this flooding and the ASRs. Will a revised support pack be released before HP permanently drops RH8 support?
