Shalom

rpm -ivh kernel-rpm

Will install anew but give you the option of backing out by rebooting.

rpm -Uvh or rpm -Fvh will remove the old kernel and replace it and are therefore more risky.

Don't worry too much about this because is a simple process (Normally), and you can revert if something goes wrong.

To upgrade your kernel, you must download the kernel version that you need from Red Hat Network, go to rhn.redhat.com, login (if you have the account) and download the kernel-.rpm.

Once downloaded, transfer it to your system and run:

rpm -ivh kernel-.rpm

The new kernel will be installed and you must reboot the system with the new kernel. Select the new kernel at the grub prompt. If you want to boot by default the new kernel, edit /etc/grub.conf and change the DEFAULT line.

If your system does not boots, means that you installed additional modules (for example, storage controller), but you can restart the system and select your old kernel to boot.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Shalom,

The kernel files are all available at http://www.redhat.com

You need RHN to gain access and do the download, which means your system must be supported.

You can poke around in the kernels posted at http://www.centos.org but I'm not sure that will work.

If these answers have been helpful, please consider assigning points.
