RHEL3-ES-U7 Login freeze after password
I'm running rhel3-es-u7 on ProLiant DL380 G4. Few times a week system stucks so that you can't log in neither from remote access via ssh nor from the console. You can get to the login prompt, but after typing your password the system stucks. Also if you try to 'su' to different user, that doesn't succeed. Also for example Samba access won't work.
Even if you had left the console open and try to reboot the system, the 'shutdown -r now' doesn't succeed. Also, this is not the infamous audit 'feature' that freezes the logins if audit's log directory reaches 80% or something.

Re: RHEL3-ES-U7 Login freeze after password
This should be some module doing something wrong. Ensure that you kernel is the latest. Check the modules that you have loaded. Check the messages file. Configure a remote syslog server. Enable magic sysrq key.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: RHEL3-ES-U7 Login freeze after password
Shalom,
It could be a resource issue. Could be the /var filesystem, could be network saturation or a kernel bug.
You may wish to try a kernel upgrade as an openning shot.
