RHEL4 or SLES9 SP1 on rx1600

I'm having problems installing any of these distributions on a pair of rx1600 servers. The problem is that the console=ttyS0 option is not working on any of them. I worked without problems with RHEL3 and Debian. Maybe this is a 2.6 kernel issue. Any experiences?

Re: RHEL4 or SLES9 SP1 on rx1600

Thanks for your reply. This is not the case, that was a problem with RHEL3. I could install RHEL3u2 in this servers without problems. It seems to be an issue with a version of the 2.6 kernel.

The SLES9 installation works if you don't start it with the SP1 cd, but the installation breaks as soon as you apply the SP1. With RHEL4 i can't install it. In both installations (SLES9 SP1 and RHEL4) i get output on the console until this line:
"VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem)"
Identicaly in both. It's documented for the SLES9 SP1, (http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/01/dcon_rx1600_sles9_sp1.html) i'm trying the workarround this night.

No documentation for RHEL4

Mmmm, too bad, my maintenance ended 09/04/2005. Anyone that could download a kernel update for me?

I would hope that no one would download a kernel update for someone who does not have their license in order... If you are an HP employee and you do, that would be a clear violation of the Standards of Business Conduct...

Re: RHEL4 or SLES9 SP1 on rx1600

Ok, just calm down. I'm evaluating the posibility to replace and alpha server with a farm of Itaniums. Had the 30 days support for that testing, but i started too late the testing.

Anyway, found an unofficial new kernel from suse and i'm goin' to try it to see if this fixes the issue. If it doesn't i'll have to make the tests with SLES9 without the SP1.
