Root password changed

Anyone,
I have a Red Hat 3.0 box and the root password was changed and no one knows what it is. I just recieved the server from another SA, and he does not know the password. Is there a way to null out the root password or another way to reset it?

Boot to single-user mode and run passwd to reset root's password.

Wow is it really that simple? I thought about trying it but figured that it wouldn't be possible for security reasons. Thanks.

Some other Linux distributions require the root password to get a single-user shell, but Red Hat does not.
