I have converted one of the three systems to a Samba only drive mounting setup.

I expect this to be more reliable.

Because so many things changed, I can not tell you what fixed the samba mount issue.

More than likely, since Samba/CIFS was fully up to date with no results, it was the 2.6.9 kernel that ships with RH ES 4.

Testing is still ongoing.

An unrelated note: The upgrade smashed squirrelmail badly. This product requires an impa server. I spent the better part of a day messing around with the setup.

cyrus imap proved useless. Dovecot, a product that isn't even a Version 1.0 product proved capable of handling popmail and imapd, which squirrelmail requires.

As to stability: I'll report later.
