Telnet is very Slow

I can ping to my server as normal but when I try to telnet it take around 2 minutes to connected to my server. My HP K570 server using 100base lan card.
Please help how to overcome the telnet problem.

Is there any firewal, that you have to cross ?

check the telnet service from the server itself using

#telnet 127.0.0.1

Which is fast?? May be name resolution is problem. Do you use dns for host resolution?? How does resolv.conf look like??

Please make sure you defined DNS server in both your server and workstation. Also you have to check your DNS server and make sure you are defined reverse zone and PTR records correctly.

+1 - your client's IP should be in DNS.
As quick&dirty workaround you can add client's hostname/address to /etc/hosts on ftp server

and also have a look in /etc/resolve.conf file .. if u have proper entry in that..
