Also when I tried a update patch of vulnerability of my kernel Linux version 2.4.18-14 REDHAT 8.0 download patch
kernel-2.4.20-28.8.i386.rpm
try :
rpm -Fvh kernel-2.4.20-28.8.i386.rpm
grubby fatal error: unable to find a suitable template

rewrite your /etc/lilo.conf. Grubby will either create
reasonable looking entries where the labels are too long for
LILO or it may simply delete the contents of your lilo.conf.
The recommended solution is to make a backup copy of your
/etc/lilo.conf before doing the upgrade and put in the
appropriate entries manually.
