I have limit the user quota limit on my RH7 , the quota is different for every users, I use edquota to change their limit , how can I limit their quota by group (/etc/group) instead of control by user ? thx

Re: User Control

Use 'edquota -g groupname' to edit group quota instead of 'edquota name' alone, which implies the -u (user) option.

Re: User Control

I was wondering the same thing... maybe he made a script that checks the forum pages every 15 seconds and plays a sound for each new question posted...

Could you share that script, Jerome? :-)

Re: User Control

I've a better technique ! I am having a class full of students trying to build a secure Apache + mysql + php + javascript +https site, and who keep asking me silly things (mmm... not silly, but 'saw in class yesterday') like 'do we really need to edit httpd.conf' or 'why can't we use euro symbol instead of $ in php ?'
Everytime I answer, I have a Ctrl R here...
That's why...

Setting up a 15 s refresh is a good idea ! But it doesn't work on the HP-UX part, as soon as I click on a question with 0 answer, I see the question plus already 1 or 2 answer... HP UX is faster than x86 Linux !

Re: User Control

Sorry about continuing the hijack of this thread.

You could modify one of Merijn's stats scripts to gather data on a particular page and email you when there is a new question.

That doesn't gaurantee you will get to it first because of how the itrc site is mirrored.

Re: User Control

Quotas can also be assigned on a per-group basis. For example, to set a group quota for the devel group, use the command (the group must exist prior to setting the group quota):

edquota -g devel

This command displays the existing quota for the group in the text editor:

Disk quotas for group devel (gid 505):
Filesystem blocks soft hard inodes soft hard
/dev/hda3 440400 0 0 37418 0 0

Modify the limits, save the file, and then configure the quota.

To verify that the group quota has been set, use the command:

quota -g devel

Also note:

edquota
quota
quotaoff
quotaon
quotacheck
repquota
