VERITAS

Hi Experts,

I want to install the veritas Netbackup software in the Linux Systems.
The veritas netbackup has already installed on Windows which are the Master/Slave and media servers.
I need to configure one Linux System just to take the backup.
Can you help me how to install the software and what are the recommended patches to install after the installation of software.
I have already gone through the manuals for the installation steps but i need to know should i need to install the client software steps? Kindly recommend me and also provide me the shortcut steps.

Hello @SRIKAKULAM,

Yes, you should install the NetBackup client on the Linux machine that you want to back up. In simple steps: copy the correct NetBackup client installer that matches the version you have on the Windows master and media servers, install it on the Linux host (use the native package format for your distro, like RPMs on Red Hat or Debian packages if provided), install any basic OS prerequisites (like development tools or kernel headers if needed), and then register the Linux host with the NetBackup master so it can be backed up. Make sure the firewall allows NetBackup ports (the usual ones are used for client-master communication), start the NetBackup client services, and verify from the client that it can reach the master. It’s best to add the host in the NetBackup Admin Console first, then test a small backup and restore to confirm everything works. After installation, apply the latest maintenance patches (EEBs or cumulative patches) that Veritas recommends for your exact NetBackup version and Linux OS, and check the release notes for any OS or kernel compatibility notes.
