Not sure if this is what you are looking for:
http://linux.dbw.org/vi_short_ref.html
or perhaps
http://tutorials.beginners.co.uk/read/category/11/id/269/p/1 (content is toward bottom of page)

Hope this helps!

Re: vi in rescue mode

Thanks Dear Bryan Eley for a quick reply.
the first links is so good. but the second links doesnt have any info.. infact there is a blank page.

dear in rhl 9, there is a tutorial .. just type the 'vimtutor' on the shell.
#vimtutor

what i have noticed/faced .. i.e in rescue mode vi/vim doesnt work the same as in normal runlevels(1-5)
and I want to learn the vi ... so that i can use vi in rescue mode efficiently.. as i used to use it in normal mode(runlevels 1-5)

hope this will clear my need.

Re: vi in rescue mode

Hi Maaz,
Are you sure that it is vi you are running in rescue mode? According to Redhat's documentation (http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/custom-guide/s1-rescuemode-boot.html),
"If you try to start other popular editors such as emacs, pico, or vi, the joe editor will be started." Of course, you might have a custom image saved out, so pardon my ignorance if this is the case.
