VxVM on Red Hat Linux 7.2 Advanced Server
Hi,
We are trying to install VxVM on Red Hat Linux (Advanced Server 7.2, kernel -2.4.9-e.25).
Using Adaptec SCSI controllers (driver version 6.2.30) for shared disks.
While running vxinstall, the program fails to detect any disk.
It looks for controller c0 and c259 and gives following error:
No disks were found attached to c0!
...
No disks were found attached to c259!
This is right after Boot Disk Encapsulation question.
The controller card (EPROM) and fdisk can detect the disks.
Is there any solution for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gyan

Re: VxVM on Red Hat Linux 7.2 Advanced Server
Just because the controller sees the disks doesn't mean Linux sees the disks.
Does the controller show up when you browse the hardware? If the controller is missing, rip out the driver and reinstall it.
Is the controller drivers up to date or on the Linux compatability list?
Having just been through some fun with cabling issues on a recently decomissioned D320(HP-UX), I'd ask if the controller/cabling drives are terminated according to instructions.
Its a place to start.

Hi SEP,
See inline comments:
>>Just because the controller sees the disks doesn't mean Linux sees the disks.
=>The controller card (EPROM) and **fdisk** can detect the disks.
>>Does the controller show up when you browse the hardware? If the controller is missing, rip out the driver and reinstall it.
=>Yes. **fdisk** can detect the disks.
>>Is the controller drivers up to date or on the Linux compatability list?
=>Using Adaptec SCSI controllers (driver version 6.2.30) for shared disks.
>>I'd ask if the controller/cabling drives are terminated according to instructions.
=>It's a BS.
On a side note, looks like you don't have any idea on what's going on.
I would suggest not to reply to questions on which you don't have any clue.
Thanks,
Gyan
