Looking at the so many tools available on the HP platform, it seems that I only need to install PSP, am I right?
All I need is for it to send out e-mail and generate SNMP trap when it detects a hardware error. I have looked into the HP ProLiant Support Pack and Deployment Utilities User Guide, however, while I have installed psp, I am not able to find documentation for PSP configuration.
Any pointer will be appreciated.

Re: What packages to install on linux for monitoring?
I have looked at "Managing ProLiant Servers with Linux" as well. It was how I found out the hpasm, however, I think it gave a broad introduction of the variousa agents. But I need a deep dive into the configuration of the various agents. So far, I assumed I can use /opt/compaq/cma.conf to send mail and play with the snmpd.conf for sending snmp trap, but is it the correct route for configuration? Are there any documentation on how to configure the agents? is psp sufficient? do I need Insight Manager ?

Re: What packages to install on linux for monitoring?
It will do all that you want it to do. SNMP traps, monitoring hardware, monitoring software, monitoring logs, etc.
(These are just some examples)
There is no $ cost to the download

Re: What packages to install on linux for monitoring?
You can try using HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM)
