Thanks. I've spent the past two evenings with RedHat's HCL. I couldn't find anything that indicated it was for 802.11b. Invariably, when I would take a Model number to the manufacturer's web site, I'd ( of course ) find that model is no longer being marketed.
Can you give me the model number of your Cisco device?

I think this is the best way for a desktop. It's completely transparent for the system. It just thinks it's plugging into a normal wired network. No drivers needed. I also had trouble figuring out what wireless network card to use but when I saw this I gave it a try and it works beautifully.
