DOT4 on LPT1 remote desktop sessions

Hello,

I am trying to find a solution to this whole DOT4 port over Remote Desktop sessions. I have several users that have purchased HP multifunction printers and are working remotely via VPN/Terminal Server. I am unable to get those printers to show up inside of their Terminal sessions. I know Microsoft's solution is to simply sacrifice the multi-functionality of the device by changing the port from DOT4 to LPT1 but when doing this I loose all functionality (it doesnt print local or remote session). Is there another way to work around this? Any help is appreciated

That solution, just like every other Microsoft or HP solution anyone else has referred to does not work.
