Modem Driver for ze4100

Ok, there is a driver page for ze4100, but there is almost no driver there. I installed XP professsional since my computer came with XP home edition. I found almost all drivers from somewhere else but not modem driver.

So can somebody explain that why hp does not provide these drivers on that page. Secondly, where can I find them.

Thanks.

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

Caglar,

That's one of the great things about XP, it already has drivers for most hardware devices. Also, if new drivers become available and are certified, then they'll be made available on the Windows Update site http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Newer (non-certified) drivers are sometimes available on the manufacturers web site.

Isn't your modem currently working?

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

Hi Saravanan an Gary;

Your replies are great but they don't answer my questions. First of all, I was asking why HP does not supply drivers on ZE4100 page? You can check there is few drivers there.

After I installed windows XP, I did update service pack, and I wouldn't post if my modem was recognized. My modem is internal (I guess all ze4100 models come with a modem, am I right?). I think it is connexion or ALi?

So please direct me to modem page.

Thanks.

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

Hi:

I assume HP doesn't post the driver on their website because it is distributed on CD media with the computer.

If all else fails, try this download:

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

Hi Caglar,

Yes, it does seem a bit odd if XP doesn't have the drivers for your modem & HP don't post one. Navigating through
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/taskPageSelect.jhtml?reg=&plc=en&lc=en&cc=gb&prodId=hppavilion385172&pagetype=prodinfo&docparent=prodinfo
which is the product information page for your computer, you get to

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?reg=&plc=en&lc=en&cc=gb&cat=prodinfo&prodId=hppavilion385172&docName=c00042629

...where HP offer 3 alternatives:
Download driver updates from HP and Compaq
Download drivers, software, and updates from Microsoft
Get updates from the company that made the software

We've tried the first two and failed, so let's have a look at the last option.

In case you don't have it, the Reference Guide for your machine is at http://h200007.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpi06775/lpi06775.pdf

The Modem is a combined Audio/Modem controller: Conexant Smart AMC CX20468-21.

The Conexant site draws a blank http://www.conexant.com/products/entry.jsp?id=159

.....OK, the best I've been able to do is...
The omnibook XE4100-KC uses the same 'soft' modem. There's a driver package for that machine that includes an XP modem driver at http://h200003.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?locale=en_USтМй=English&pnameOID=83660&prodSeriesId=83658&prodTypeId=321957&basePartNum=ob913&locBasepartNum=ob913en&os=Microsoft+Windows+XP&tech=Driver - unfortunately, it's 30Mb, but it may get you going.

As a last ditch attempt, you could give HP support a call.

Gary

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

Thanks for all reply. Actually I found connexant signed drivers before but I was not able to install it. There is file in the folder called HXFSetup.exe and when I double click it, there is no message appears on the screen. It looks like XP just ignores it. Is there any other way to install it?

The driver compilition which is around 30 MB does have a folder called MODEM but it seems that it is the same as single alone Connexant driver and it does not respond as well.

By the way, the modem was working when the computer was pre-installed with HP HOme. So you told me that HP only provides drivers in recorvery CD which means I can not install XP Professional on it.

HP? Invent some way to provide drivers please.

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

Caglar,

If you've got as far as having a directory with the conexant driver in it, have you got any sort of modem listed in Device manager so that you can do an "Update Driver..."?

Re: Modem Driver for ze4100

on my device manager, there is "Other devices", "PCI MOdem" with a exclamation mark on it. I did upgrade driver, and point to "Modem Folder", and I got unable to locate driver.

Also, computer tell me that it found a new device but it can not locate the driver.

I use high speed internet but need modem to send fax.

Really frustuating, eh?
