partion

I have an new HP laptop with Vista OS and a shelf fell on it. Now it does not boot up and the drive is not recognized, I searched the hard drive on an XP machine with a data recovery program and it only found the Recovery D drive, with no C drive to be found. Is there a simple way I can recover my data?

Re: partion

Hi,
I think you can use the recovery partition & recovery the system.
While doing so, Please read carefully, It will clearly say that "NO User DATA file is erased".

It basically rebuilds the OS files. Make sure you put in the same user name. Once up & running.. do a search for the required files.

Regards.

Re: partion

thanks for the help. but quick question I removed the HD from the laptop, and placed it in an external enclosure JAZ drive. now if I use a computer that has XP and not Vista can I still acces the data or do I need to find a VISTA OS, ... what if I switch to MAC!

Re: partion

Hi,
I am not sure if that can be done. I havent tried that myself. There could be an compatibility issue.

I believe for the recovery partition you need to press F11 key on POST.

Re: partion

You can use XP until u have NTFS file system in ur XP.
Switching to MAC wont work if NTFS is there.
