XP Pro not seeing files on Windows 2008 Server (X1600)
I have a windows 2008 server - NAS X1600 Box with Server 2008 SP2 on, at first we had one user with an older laptop and XP SP2 that had issues connecting to some documents in their my documents folder, when they opened up either the my documents folder, opened up the document from MS Word or MS Excel they got the following error message
\\UKSU-S-FILESRV1\USERS$\user.name\Reports\Reports 2010\P7\Updated Forecast End P7 2010.xls
Check the spelling of the filename and verify the file location is correct.
Click on it 3 times and on the 3rd occasion it opens? Gave him a new laptop, XP SP3, all office updates, for 1 week no problems, now I have intermittent issues with 4 users, all running XP 32bit, 2 with SP2 and 2 with SP3, including the original guy with the issue, they get this annoying error, that eventually goes away after the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time of trying to open the file.
All the machines are running the latest office updates for office 2003, the machines are patched up (apart from the SP2 ones) and it’s not just spreadsheets, but word documents, and PDF files, I have even turned off the AV software on the machine and on the server, reset the permissions on the fileserver, renamed the users folder so XP re-creates the folder and moved everything back in, still no joy.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Regards
Shaun
