Is it possible to define a virtual hometerm or EMS collector as a device?

I have a process that I am starting as a daemon (migrated from some other unix or linux environment) that will take redirection to /dev/null, but not to a /G/XXXX process name.   Is it possible to define a device other than $NULL?    How do I do it?    I saw some info about define /dev/zsmp , but it was only in the oss setup, and no info about how to do it manually.
