Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

select the efi shell from the boot menu.

There will be devices called fs0, fs1 etc
for each file struction partion that EFI can see. (use map command to get the list).

For each do this to change that disk

fs0:
then do
cd /efi/vms
dir
if there is a vms_loader.efi in that directory then that disk is a bootable VMS system. You can boot it by

vms_loader.efi

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Hi,

You can either use EFI Boot Manager

OR

You can run this BOOT_OPTIONS.COM - Boot Manager utility to add and validate boot options. This displays boot options known to the EFI Boot Manager.
- Add a boot option to the EFI Boot Manager so that your system disk boots automatically when the system
is powered on or rebooted.
- Remove or change the position of a boot option in the EFI Boot Manager list.
- Validate and fix the boot option list.
- Change how long EFI pauses before booting or rebooting. Hope it would be helpful..

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Hi Jose,
you have to eneter in EFI environment then you can type dir command on every device yoi see with map command.
Device with OpenVMS has fs:\efi\vms directory and bootable device has fs:\efi\boot\bootia64.efi file.

No, you haven't.
Why you don't see fs1: device?
Can you see fs:\efi\boot directory in each device?
I hope you did't delete SYS$EFI.SYS on your openvms disk, because in this case you can't boot more :-(

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Hi,

I have fs1. The volumes are:
#####
fs1:\efi\vms> vms_show device -fs
VMS: DQA0 IDE Drive
EFI: fs0: Acpi(000222F0,0)/Pci(2|0)/Ata(Primary,Master)

VMS: DKA0 HP 73.4GATLAS10K3_73_SCAHP05
EFI: fs1: Acpi(000222F0,100)/Pci(1|0)/Scsi(Pun0,Lun0)

VMS: DKA100 HP 73.4GATLAS10K3_73_SCAHP05
EFI: fs3: Acpi(000222F0,100)/Pci(1|0)/Scsi(Pun1,Lun0)

#####
fs1:\efi\vms> vms_show device -fs
VMS: DQA0 IDE Drive
EFI: fs0: Acpi(000222F0,0)/Pci(2|0)/Ata(Primary,Master)

This is a CD-ROM drive after map -r command. If there is a VMS upgrade CD/DVD in it you can find vms loader at fs0:\efi\boot\bootia64.efi file.

VMS: DKA0 HP 73.4GATLAS10K3_73_SCAHP05
EFI: fs1: Acpi(000222F0,100)/Pci(1|0)/Scsi(Pun0,Lun0)

This is the first HD. There is a VMS file system on it because you find \efi\vms directory on it.

VMS: DKA100 HP 73.4GATLAS10K3_73_SCAHP05
EFI: fs3: Acpi(000222F0,100)/Pci(1|0)/Scsi(Pun1,Lun0)

This is the second HD.
On both HD, if there is a VMS file system you should see fs:\efi\vms directory. VMS file system doesn't mean you can boot vms. The vms boot loader is fs:\efi\vms\vms_loader.efi

I guess your bootable HD is fs1:
You can check for this issuing follow command
EFI>dir -b -r fs1:\*.efi

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Jose,
it seems to me you have OpenVMS installed on fs1: and that's a bootable volume.
You see vms_loader.efi in directory fs1:\efi\vms so you simply 'should boot' with follow command:
EFI>fs1:\efi\vms\vms_loader.efi
What does happen after you issued above command?
You could also supply all theese commands:
EFI>fs1:
EFI>cd \efi\vms
EFI>vms_loader

If you can't boot may be you have some hardware trouble :-(

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Please tell us the model of Integrity system you are using, and which console port you are connected to.

What revision of firmware is installed on the system?

Also, check the console configuration in the Boot Configuration menu. If the console port you are connected to is disabled in the menu, you won't see any output from VMS.

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

The model is Itanium2 rx2600 (product number A6873A). I am using console port MP to telnet.

Revision of firmware:
Firmware Revision: 2.31 [4411]
PAL_A Revision: 7.31/7.31
PAL_B Revision: 7.59
SAL Spec Revision: 3.01
SAL_A Revision: 2.00
SAL_B Revision: 2.31
EFI Spec Revision: 1.10
EFI Intel Drop Revision: 14.61
EFI Build Revision: 1.22
POSSE Revision: 0.10
ACPI Revision: 7.00
BMC Revision 1.53
IPMI Revision: 1.00
SMBIOS Revision: 2.3.2a
Management Processor Revision: E.03.15

How I verify if port is enable in the menu?

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Jose,
it seems to me your firmware is up to date.
May be you have something wrong in your configuration but I'm in dubt about this.

BTW use SA command and then you should see:
R remote/modem port = OS SESSION
T Telnet = ENABLED (sure you're using it!)
W Web enable = enable and try via http!

You also could restore all default values with DC command.

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

The OpenVMS Upgrade and Installation manual explains how to set up your console. Look at this URL:

Re: Boot OpenVMS Itanium.

Hi,

I was using the telnet and moved for the serial connection (rs-232) and functioned. I installed OpenVMS 8.2.

Thanks.
