Debug PC Client

Where can I find this? I know it's meant to be on the Layered Products CD, but it's not on my DVD titled:

HP Layered Product Library for HP OpenVMS on HP Integrity Servers (I64BINNOV071)

Can it be downloaded?(DSPP member)

And, can it be used to debug a detached process.

Re: Debug PC Client

As an alternative to the PC Debugger, I use X Windows and OpenVMS Debugger and remote debugging for this task, or (more commonly) I use the character-cell debugger via X Windows remote DECterm:

http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/803
http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/134
http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1121

A Mac OS X box or a Linux box arrives with everything you need to use this approach.

You'll want to address any DSPP questions directly to the DSPP folks, either via the DSPP web site or via your DSPP contact(s). AFAIK, the DSPP folks don't usually post answers or comments here in ITRC.

Some background for those unfamiliar with the Windows client for the debugger, here is the related URL:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82final/4538/4538pro_024.html#windex_ch

I've not looked for the directory [DEBUG_CLIENTS*] on the distribution kits; given the references to Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT, this documentation (URL above) is likely very old.

The first attempt to post this has failed. Reposting. I've checked for, but apologies on any duplicates that do arise.

Re: Debug PC Client

According to my listings (at http://de.openvms.org/spl.php?upi=FOE4A&display=full ) this is part of the Integrity OE distribution, but hasn't changed since its first appearance in Nov-2006.

Re: Debug PC Client

Thanks for the responses. I already use the X-Windows debugger with excursion on Windows but was looking for an alternative for others who don't have excursion. I also use the character cell client.

There are references to later versions of Windows incluing Vista in the HP documenatation so I guess the PC client v1.1 still works with these versions.

Re: Debug PC Client

I have hunted out an old alpha (7.3-2) distribution and found the PC client where expected.

Martin; I looked on my I64 disks for the directory suggested by your database but couldn't find that either.

Thanks again.

Re: Debug PC Client

Kerry,

be aware that there are *TWO* kinds of SPL for Integrity: they put all the products that are "near" the OS into a new kind of SPL named "Integrity Operating Environment Software Prodoct Library" (or OE SPL for short).

That said, I have no idea how to get hold of an OE SPL kit.

Re: Debug PC Client

Martin,

There are a lot of layered products on the OE DVD (CSWS, PERL, netbeans...) but not the debug client. I certainly don't have a separate OE layered products disk.

Cheers.

Re: Debug PC Client

Kerry,

I just had a look, too. It is correct that the SPL DVD distributed with the OS is the wrong one (confusingly, that's NOT the OE SPL... go figure).

I've got another box which contains a DVD called "HP OE Update for HP OpenVMS on Integrity Servers", label OEDBINxxxxxx. That's the one that contains the debug client. It seems you get those via a software update Support Agreement (but don't quote me on that - DEC licensing has always managed to baffle me ;-).

Re: Debug PC Client

Martin,

I looked (with eyes) at that disk several times and discounted it (thought I knew what it was), but was obviously wrong to do so!

Thanks for doing what I should have done in the first place.

Re: Debug PC Client

PC debug client found. Have tried and found to be unusably slow, might try to progress at a future date.
