Anyone know what a status of "session mode" means in DECserver context? I've just never seen it before.
Local> show port 8 status
Port 8: (Remote) Server: LUN-TS11
Access: Remote Current Service:
Status: Session Mode Current Node:
Sessions: 0 Current Port:
Input XOFFed: No Output Signals: DTR RTS
Output XOFFed: Yes Input Signals: RXD

On various terminal server widgets I've seen, that's the name usually given to the TD/SMP stuff; to the multisession serial line multiplexing capabilities. Some terminals offer multisession capabilities, too. Basically multiplexing several terminal sessions over one set of wiring.
Not commonly used any more, and it never really seemed to catch on.
TD/SMP: that's the Terminal Device/Session Management Protocol.

And if this is what I rcall, I should add that a multisession-capable terminal worked with this stuff. For OpenVMS itself, see the SSU layered product package; the session support utility. (Haven't seen any of this stuff in about a decade, and SSU was retired eons ago.)

Thanks Hoff. I found the same references when I searched the internet. I just hadn't seen the phrase "session mode" actually reported as a Port Status. The port that showed that status was hung and I had to log it out.
