ERRFMT process keeps disappearing

Hi there
we keep receiving notifications thet ERRFRM process has disappeared. I manually start it again, but within 10 - 15 minutes it disappears. How can I find out what is happening to this process to make it stop

check for a SYS$MANAGER:ERRFMT_ERROR.LOG file and look at it's contents. What error message do you find in there ?

ERRFMT is being started in SYS$COMMON:[SYS$STARTUP]VMS$CONFIG-050_ERRFMT.COM as a detached process with /error=sys$manager:errfmt_error.log

error message is %PROCDUMP-E-OPENOUT, error opening DSA500:[SYSEXE]ERRFMT.DMP; as output
-RMS-E-DNF, directory not found

This is an old disk no longer existing.

Does anyone know where it picks up this location from.

it is possible to define a location for process dumps using the logicals:

SYS$PROCDMP or
SYS$PROTECTED_PROCDMP

Please check the existance and values of those logicals or re-define them as appropriate.

Once you have a valid ERRFMT.DMP process dump file, you'll have to analyze it using

$ ANAL/PROC dev:[dir]ERRFMT.DMP

You can also check the ACCOUNTING record for the process termination of the ERRFMT process for the value of Final Status Code.
