Graphical Login

Hi all, Does anyone know how to configure a VMS server for graphical login with reflection or any other terminal emulator software? I have enabled the XDM service, and I have DW-motif installed and licensed, but I still can't login to the graphical interface remotely, though I can connect with a telnet session.
Any assistance will be very much appreciated

Re: Graphical Login

I find this document pretty .... strange. I am using both reflection and linux (X-server) and none are working.

Re: Graphical Login

Well, you would have to have the DECW$SERVER installed and running, and you'd have to have the permissions going (xhost). I suppose (haven't been in this area in a while) the only systems with a graphics head would have decwindows installed by default.

Hope this helps a little,

Hein.

And more importantly, report what was the problem. This way the thread can be re-used by others that have the same problem.

Re: Graphical Login

Well, since I was using the xdm service, I needed to configure the xdm service to allow xdmcp connections. In this case, I needed to create an Xaccess.txt file in the sys$specific:[tcpip$xdm] directory. Apparently, when this file doesn't exist, which is the default situation, the server disallows all requests.

Re: Graphical Login

The difference with how we use it is that XDM starts a login process while we directly start the session manager. No use to let the user enter his VMS password : it's given in the config. We also have too many nodes and it's not up to the user to make the choice.

A second thing is that certain applications were not made for being used via kea!x and thus need (small) extras. Just as running down the session manager sometime leaves garbage processes that need to be cleanup before startup can be done again.

A third thing is that we want the error messages in files. Not on the screen of the user. This simplifies remote management.

That explains the pretty strange usage notes.

Re: Graphical Login

Try using eXcursion V7.
when configuring . In the Server control-panel, under XDMCP tab try Query Host and Indirect host both with the VMS server's IP or hostname.
