Solution
Mike,
Maybe you can use this:
Use ftp in binary mode to copy the file to VMS.
You get a fixed length 512 bytes record file.
Do a SET FILE/ATTRIBUTES=LRL=1 on the file (or copy)
Now you can edit it with edt editor (each character is a single line), a little bit hard to work with, but no buffer overflows.
When finished reset the file to to 512 byte records with SET FILE/ATTRIBUTES=LRL=512 or set the file to stream_LF with SET FILE/ATTRIBUTES=RFM=STMLF.

I forgot to ask you if Iskra Delta in one of yours previous posts, means that you worked at Iskra Delta?

Now I can experiment and massage my logo.
Even, UltraEdit works fine on Windows XP.
