HP LJ4200TN PCL for barcode on/off

I need to print barcodes on a barcode enabled HPLJ440TN from a MUMPS application running on my DS10 (VMS7.2-1)
I have managed to obtain a list of esc sequencies for the 4400 but barcode on and barcode off are not on the list.
Anyone know the esc seq or ASCII for bcon/off in PCL6?

Barcodes can be done by setting the symbol set or by using "special fonts".
You should be able to fix this by resetting the symbol set or font.
This sets it back to courier 10

Thanks Phil,

Now do you know the esc sequence for barcode on, barcode off and barcode init?

Re: HP LJ4200TN PCL for barcode on/off

For pcl printers I don't know of any such command, a barcode is only a font, the only complication is if you need to download it to the printer.
Once this is ok, send the escape code to set the font type, then your barcode number, then the escape code to reset the font back to whatever your default is.
My experience of barcodes does not extend to pcl6, so there may be changes in this area.

Re: HP LJ4200TN PCL for barcode on/off

Thanks again.
I checked the installed DIMM on the printer and it looks like it's probably not compatible with the printer type. Which would explain why the code39 font is not appearing on the font list. It's just giving the internal fonts.
However, now I understand how HP do barcodes.
Kyocera printers use a different method and it is those I have used in the past.

http://www.morovia.com/font/support/pcl.asp
has a brief overview of how to copy a font to the printer and make it permanent
(if you have enough memory)

Re: HP LJ4200TN PCL for barcode on/off

We are using PCL to print from the mainframe. We have no problem changing the fonts of our M/F output, but we cannot get any barcoding to work. We've tried the following control but it didn't work for us.

Mainframe? Are we talking OpenVMS (which is the topic for the ITRC forum here) on a VAX 9000 series box (the so-called "mainframe VAX"), or some other operating system and/or other hardware?

As for:

You do have to include the escape sequence and related character dreck to get OpenVMS to send and the printer to honor the sequence -- OpenVMS expects to send ANSI escape and control sequences to the printer. So there needs to be a wrapper around the PCL.

For OpenVMS, the ancient keystone topic for IP printing (and pointers to other printing-related topics) is the old Ask The Wizard (ATW) area topic 1020. http://www.hp.com/go/openvms/wizard Once there, you can grab the whole ATW area via the wizard.zip archive.

The actual string is
|(10u|(s0p469h120v0b0T*JohnTest* where (10u is the excape sequence. I just don't know if the above code is barcode.

Re: HP LJ4200TN PCL for barcode on/off

If you're just looking for PCL barcode assistance for a specific HP LaserJet, you're probably not in the best available forum. (The LaserJet printer jockeys aren't likely lurking here in the OpenVMS forum, and the OpenVMS jockeys here are comparatively late arrivals within the entirety that is the HP product family.)

And when you post over in the LaserJet forums, you might want to identify the specific model of LaserJet printer, and whatever system is running on the mainframe.

Here's the generic forum for printers:
