I have an msl5026 that gives the following error. I do not have a lot of experience with these.

it looks like you are using ABS/MDMS. Is there more output below the last line that you have shown? I've seen MDMS fail trying to access an archive when one of the volumes in the volset has been moved to an offsite location. it cannot append the new tape to the volset.
check the placement field on all the volumes in the volset.
MDMS SET ARCHIVE/NOVOL 'archive' ! this will force any backup using the archive to start a new volset
