Can anybody help me with the above as I installed the OpenVMS base license on a new install of Open VMS 7.3-2 and all seemd fine as I was able to log in as SYSTEm at the console and check the license was loaded.
The user has now contacted me to say that the first time he tried to log in after I left he got the message that teh system password had expired so he changed it and then got the above message and then teh console logged him out. I don't think it has anything to do with Decwindows motif as he is trying to log in at the console so I am a bit stumped at to what to try next.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks,
Karen

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
your message is not very clear.
You say " I don't think it has anything to do with Decwindows motif" - but there was no other mention of motif or windows. Are we missing something?
Were you perhaps refering to this thread?

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
Yes you are quite right - I WAS looking at that thread and should have said so, apologies.
I have been told that the OpenVMS base licese should already contain the Decwindows-motif license as I am thinking that this might be the problem as I don't remember seeing a Decwindows Motif license on the system.
I am wondering if I got a DEcwindow smotif license and installed it would this help.

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
you do indeed need a DW-MOTIF PAK to use DECwindows.
The base licence does not cover it. Maybe you were getting the base licence confused with a NAS licence?

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
So do you still need a separate decwindows-motif license as well as the OpenVMS Alpha Base license to log in EVEN if you are actually standing at the console itself ?
This is what is confusing me .

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
I will get one and then install it and see how it goes.
By the way, as I am not a frequent visitor to the forum , could enlighten me as to what AFAIK means ? !

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
A TLA is a "Three Letter Acronym" (which in this case is really a "Five Letter Acronym".
Just do a Google search for it and you'll see many more...

Re: LMF License Check has Failed logging on at console
as you are by your own writing unfamiliar with the forums, let me add another part of the customs.
(You are not alone, what now follows is a standard text, with just your personal profile values added)
from your Forum Profile:
I have assigned points to 3 of 18 responses to my questions.
Maybe you can find some time to do some assigning?
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33
Mind, I do NOT say you necessarily need to give lots of points. It is fully up to _YOU_ to decide how many. If you consider an answer is not deserving any points, you can also assign 0 ( = zero ) points, and then that answer will no longer be counted as unassigned.
Consider, that every poster took at least the trouble of posting for you!
To easily find your streams with unassigned points, click your own name somewhere.
This will bring up your profile.
Near the bottom of that page, under the caption "My Question(s)" you will find "questions or topics with unassigned points " Clicking that will give all, and only, your questions that still have unassigned postings.
If you have closed some of those streams, you must "Reopen" them to "Submit points". (After which you can "Close" again)
Do not forget to explicitly activate "Submit points", or your effort gets lost again!!
Thanks on behalf of your Forum colleagues.
PS. - nothing personal in this. I try to post it to everyone with this kind of assignment ratio in this forum. If you have received a posting like this before - please do not take offence - none is intended!
PPS. - Zero points for this.
Proost.
Have one on me.
