Mac OS - using newer version of Mac OS for connecting to AXP on OpenVMS
The following is being posed to us in Ops and I have no knowledge of Mac's and their OS. I need some help from the group on this. Thanks in advance for any assitance / advice anyone can give me.
From an instrutor:
I currently access the AXP on my Mac through NSCA/BYU Telenet 2.5. In order to use this I have to use system 9.2 the old almost out of date Mac OS. Do you know of a way to access the AXP through Mac OS X? Might it be possible to get to the AXP using the UNIX Terminal in OS X? Like I say it is working fine now but, it is the only thing that I still use the 9.2 OS for.

http://www.pollet.net/GLterm/
There is also iTerm, which has been improving rapidly:
http://iterm.sourceforge.net/
It looks like PowerTerm does VT emulation if you want a commercial solution:

I've also heard you can run xterm under X11.

Re: Mac OS - using newer version of Mac OS for connecting to AXP on OpenVMS
I'll admit that I use xterm on a Mac (Mac OS
10.3.9) from time to time to talk to my VMS
system. You get the usual xterm behavior
(key mapping, copy-paste), which may be more
familiar than that of "terminal". As with
much X software, a three-button mouse helps.

Re: Mac OS - using newer version of Mac OS for connecting to AXP on OpenVMS
Search for a shell script vmsterm or decxterm
(location posted here or in comp.os.vms):
# vmsterm
# from an original script by Bob Ess
# key translations by Erik Ahlefeldt
# Script file using Xterm and telnet to connect to a VMS host
# and give a decent vt220 emulation.
If necessary I can pull my version from the Linux system I'm using permanently to work on VMS.
I have used vmsterm also on HPUX and AIX systems, so I expect it to work on a MacX as well, eventually modifying the key-layout.
Xterm key-remapping does not/need not modify the X11 key map like xmodmap.
