sez:
"HP Services will support the HP OpenVMS VAX software on the CHARON-VAX emulator running on HP systems only. Existing software service contracts are valid on supported OpenVMS VAX applications running on the emulator. HP will fix software problems if they are also seen in the comparable VAX environment."
Does this mean that HP will not support emulated VAX/VMS on non-HP boxes via CHARON-VAX or does this mean that one is not _allowed_ to run emulated VAX/VMS with a legally transferred license to CHARON-VAX on a non-HP box?
Thanks,
D.

Solutionwhile my personal reading says "not supported" but allowed, you do need to confirm that with
hp, since they are the only ones to give you a leagaly binding answer.
Check out
http://licensing.hp.com/swl/view.slm?page=index
for starters. It does have a contact address for detailed inquiries.
Greetings, Martin

Re: May CHARON/VAX with HP licenses be used on non-HP computers?
CHARON-VAX is not an HP product, so we can't dictate what systems you're "allowed" to run it on.
If you purchase the product from HP, then, as the license says, we will support it when running on HP hardware.
You'd have to check the fine print of the license transfer agreement to see if you are allowed to use HP licenses to run VAX/VMS software on an emulator running on non-HP hardware.

Re: May CHARON/VAX with HP licenses be used on non-HP computers?
John,
As far as I know, CHARON-VAX is not sold by HP anywhere. See http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/sri-charon-vax-emulator.html
"The CHARON-VAX emulator is a software product owned, sold, and serviced by Software Resources International (SRI)." (and its resellers)
So, I don't think that we can say that VMS will be supported by HP if the emulator was sold by HP.
I sent mail to these guys from HP licensing. Will let you know.

Re: May CHARON/VAX with HP licenses be used on non-HP computers?
HP _will_ support Charon when used on HP boxes. If you run it on a non-HP box, Charon will NOT be supported, but I guess VMS will.
