Is there a way how to connect the MSA1000 console via VMS?
In the 'old' days it was possible to connect to the HSZ and HSG controller console direct via VMS (using the HSZterm utility) => SET HOST /SCSI $1$DKC105: or SET HOST /SCSI $1$DGA1105:
Is there a similar possibility to do this on an MSA1000?
If not then I need the pinout of the MSA1000 serial console in order to create a DB-9 - RJ45 connector.
I appreciate your feedback and advice.
Many thanks

SolutionYou can connect to the MSA1000 through SYS$ETC:MSA_UTIL.EXE
It's not as functional as connecting through the serial port on the front of the MSA..... but it's OK if you just want to look.
Failing that connect the controller to the host, and connect via an OpenVMS serial port. Search other ITRC postings for how to do this.... it was posted here not long ago.
Hope this helps,
Jeff

Re: MSA1000 'Console' Access via VMS?
there is now also the MSA$UTL V1.0 kit available:
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/products/MSA/
MSA$UTIL is a system management tool to configure, diagnose, and expand disk arrays for the HP MSA 1xxx and the Smart Array P400, 6402, 6404, 5302, and 5304 controllers.
The official V1.0 kit has been released 2 weeks ago.

Re: MSA1000 'Console' Access via VMS?
I have found it helpful to enable the 'alternate typeahead buffer' on the line - else, I got buffer overruns.
For quite some time now, all MSA1000s have been shipped with a console cable and it used to be possible to order replacement parts. The connector is called RZ45-Z - try to connect a plain RJ45 connector and you will see what I mean ;-)
