NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
After installation of OSI Eco6, doing a ncl> sho dtss all, ncl hangs after 'state=on' and takes 100% CPU.
Does somebody have an idea what might be the cause ?

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
did it work without ECO 6 installed ? If so, then it could well be a bug in DECnet-OSI V7.2-1 ECO 6.
There are references to a similar-sounding problem in DECnet-OSI V7.3-1 ECO 2 - a new DTSS$SERVICE.EXE was provided (link date 7-MAR-2003)
Corrections made to SYS$SYSTEM:DTSS$SERVICE.EXE:
...
- Prevent hang on "show dtss all" command.

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
Thanks for the reply. Before ECO6, it worked fine. So I presume you're right.
I will launch a support call to request more info.

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
Just check out there could be a patch for this problem as well.

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
ECO 6 includes a DTSS$SERVICE.EXE linked 4-APR-2002.
Support (PVS) for OpenVMS Alpha V7.2-2 and DECnet-Plus (V7.2-1) has ended 30-JUN-2004, so I would not expect to see any further ECOs for these versions.

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
We use local naming and I don't have that file on my system (only the template).
Thanks

SHOW DTSS ALL STATUS works.
SHOW DTSS ALL CHARACTERISTICS ALSO
Strange enough, when I tried SHOW DTSS ALL this morning, it worked, but only for one time.
Here's the output:

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
"Strange enough, when I tried SHOW DTSS ALL this morning, it worked, but only for one time."
Does this means it only worked one time for you and now again it is hanging.
Also try to give command MC NCL SHO DTSS ALL immediately after MC NCL SHO DTSS ALL CHAR. Does it work fine then??
Best regards,
Lokesh

But no hangs. Had hangs in 6.2 long time ago.

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
It's indeed hanging again.
All more detailed commands SHOW DTSS ALL STATUS CHARACTERISTICS and COUNTERS work fine.
Very strange.

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
Had this problem too, exactly as you describe, right up to the individual commands working. Had a third party look into it with no luck. Logged a call with HP, which they acknowledged and we waited... I think you might find the PID that issues the hanging NCL comand is actually in a tight CPU loop in NCLSHR. I think there's a memory leak.
We eventually upgraded to vms7.3-1 (not for this reason) and it went away. Not the answer your after, but you might not find the end of the rainbow on this one...

Re: NCL SHO DTSS ALL hangs
Thanks for your reply. It seems indeed that you suffered from exactly the same problem.
We need to upgrade our hard and software in the near future anyway, so I won't search further on this one. I currently only installed the ECO on a development machine and won't install it on production.
I will close this thread.
Thanks to everone taking his time to respond !
