need help in upgrading disk -integrity-smart array-openvms

Has anyone tried to upgrade disk firmware on an Integrity system with smart array controllers, running OpenVMS? If so, is there a procedure available?

Kevin,

Can you be more precise about your configuration and level of expertise? I am not sure at what level to answer the question.

Precise information about CPU Model, OS Release, and related information is always helpful.

Re: need help in upgrading disk -integrity-smart array-openvms

Yes, I have. Recently, too.

One of the most direct ways: burn a CD-R disk from the ISO disk image available from HP, and boot it. Went through this a week or so ago.

Might help here to elaborate some on the particular details of your configuration.

Usual first step here is to get the Integrity console going, and that's box-specific; the console details vary. Then the integrated RAID controllers do need to be configured (best before you get going), and that's described in the hardware installation manuals for your particular box.

Re: need help in upgrading disk -integrity-smart array-openvms

Thanks to all for your replys. The systems are rx8640, and rx6600, running OpenVMS. They drives in question are NOT direct attached to the system, but sit behind a SmartArray 6000 class disk controller. That is where I believe the problem will be. If you boot the EFI shell, and mount a drive that has the firmware files, will the update "passthru" the Smart Array controller? Or will I need to somehow utilize the Smart Array controller to update the disk firmware?
Thanks

Re: need help in upgrading disk -integrity-smart array-openvms

Kevin,

From the last posting: Is the firmware for the disks or the SmartArray controller? If for the disks, what models are the disks?

Bob, The firmware is for the disk drives. 72gig scsi drives. They are attached to a Smart Array 6400 controller.
