Re: No Console setup
Both are right.
Advantage of the current setting is you CAN use edt/tpu (AKA eve), which is not possible for OP devices.

Re: No Console setup
are you sure a VT510 connected to a serial OPA0: does not allow EDIT/TPU?
Just slightly after the stone age we connected VT-like terminals to the console port of our VAX-11/780s and used TPU.

Re: No Console setup
be usable for full screen editing as long
as an appropriate SET TERMINAL command is
performed. I have numerous such configurations
here.

Re: No Console setup
are you sure your VT is right connected?
I work usually on AlphaServer and they have always two ports, 1.st is OPA0: and 2.nd is TTA0: and they are very similar.
With last SRM (BIOS) startup operation are displayed on TTA0: too, while shutdown operation hide after terminal disabled; however, if you have a recent SRM you can boot and change SRM configuration from TTA0 so you can believe you are using console.

Re: No Console setup
DS10 has two 9 pin port (called db9); if you look with glass you can read two very little numbers, 1 and 2. The port numbere 1 is OPA0, the port numbered 2 is TTA0.
Move your cable from a port to another and you are connecetd to console.
You can move cable without reboot system.
